Schroth Physiotherapy for Scoliosis
London Ontario

Schroth Physiotherapy for Scoliosis

Dave is certified through the Barcelona Schroth Physical Therapy School. The school teaches physical therapists  advanced techniques to treat  scoliosis based on the concepts developed by Katarina Schroth. These principles have evolved over decades through the treatment of hundreds of thousands of clients and have solid research support.

Scoliosis specific physiotherapy sessions begin with a comprehensive assessment identifying unique components of your child's spinal curve. Based on the assessment findings a home exercise program is developed to optimize posture, strength, motor control and function. The personalized program will consist of postural corrections combined with specific breathing patterns and stabilization activities. These activities will help develop better awareness and control of the spine. The goals of therapy are to optimize quality of life and reduce curve progression.

In addition to providing an exercise program, Dave can also help with recommendations regarding whether spinal bracing is necessary for trying to prevent the need for surgery. He can help guide clients through this challenging process with a thorough knowledge of the research available on this topic.

Scoliosis is a challenging condition for physiotherapists to treat. To achieve optimal function both the curve and rotation of scoliosis must be addressed. Advanced training that is not taught in physiotherapy school is required to develop an exercise regime to address these complex changes.

If you are looking for a consultation regarding a recent scoliosis diagnosis, please contact the clinic and identify your interest in scoliosis specific treatment. Dave currently has a waitlist for orthopaedic clients, but due to the time sensitive nature of treating adolescent  scoliosis he will make every effort possible to assess these clients in a timely manner.
